The B3AT’s Coachella 2016 Warm-Up Guide!

Coachella 2016 will be Historic! Here is The B3AT’s Pre-Show guide

Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is already at legendary status when it comes to acts that have performed over the past 15+ years. In the early years it was legendary rockers like Iggy Pop and The White Stripes that graced the polo fields, as well as the single most requested band to come back to Coachella Daft Punk playing in the Sahara tent.

In more recent years and memory you can’t help but reflect back to the Dr Dre and Snoop Dog headline spot in 2012 a year that also featured Radiohead for a Headliner.

But the Dre and Snoop spot really put this festival on the map, thanks in part to a couple special guests, Eminem, 50 Cent, Wiz Khalifa and Easy-E (as a hologram).

Everybody went nuts at this moment and as we were standing there on the polo field in front of the main stage, I thought to myself “There is nothing more important in the world of music happening at this moment, and perhaps for a long time before”.

You could feel the History oozing out of this set.

Too many acts, performances and artists to mention in one article. But the point is Coachella is always historic at times and History is made every year there. Whether it be incredible collaborations or just the fact that a band like 90’s Shoegazers, Lush are performing after 20+ years. Or for that matter, Yes! Guns n’ F’in Roses will take the stage on night 2 of Coachella, after 20+ years, this was a great act on the part of Goldenvoice, there is a huge buzz right now for GnR and the timing is perfect!

Also not to mention the Day 1 Headliner LCD Soundsystem will be sending the crowd into a frenzy like they do. Saw James Murphy and co. last time they played Coachella and it was legendary, they should have been headling then, but 5 years after they called it quits the kings and queens of disco/alt rock have returned and are promised to have new music to share. Can not wait!

Here is a day by day breakdown as The B3AT sees it, it may not be what you view, but just here to help and point in the direction of not to miss acts whether you are attending the festival or watching on the live feeds.

Friday, Day One

Thinking that earlier in the day will be Miami Horror. Miami Horror are an Australian indietronica band from Melbourne. Miami Horror was initially formed by its producer and DJ, Benjamin Plant who began it as a solo project. With full band in tow this should be a great afternoon dance party.

Låpsley aka Holly Lapsley Fletcher a Bristish Electronic artist with an amazing and mesmerizing voice. She is making waves in the music world with music from her latest album ‘Long Way Home’. This could be amazing!

Another buzzed about band for the opening day is HÆLOS. The electro/trip hop-rock trio has been widely received on their debut album ‘Full Circle’. Their music is captivating and spellbinding and should translate well in a packed tent of melting fans.

Speaking of electronic music added with a mix of dope guitars, don’t miss BOB MOSES wherever they are. They are another Friday act that looks and sounds amazing. This will be a buzz duo that will deliver. They have played events such as Burning Man and other festivals and these guys have the goods. Some serious beats and sounds. For a taste check out their song “Tearing Me Up”, that should put it in perspective.

HEALTH is another act that we caught at last years FYF Festival and they totally brought it! New Order meets Nine Inch Nails, anthemic alt-electro act that will blow you away. Don’t miss these guys!

If you don’t see any other band on Friday you really don’t want to miss SAVAGES. These ladies will blow you away. It’s Siouxisie & the Banshees meets Patti Smith injected with Sex Pistols. Some serious noise here. Saw them at their Coachella debut a few years back and also FYF Fest last year. This should be their biggest set to date and they give 110%, one of the best acts all weekend 4 sure!

Some of the other acts on Friday not to miss are Foals, Lord Huron, Of Monsters and Men, Frances, The Last Shadow Puppets, Sufjan Stevens, M83, Underworld, and of course LCD Soundsystem.

Saturday, Day 2

Aside from the fact that on the second day you have legendary LA Rockers GUNS n’ ROSES headlining as well as ICE CUBE probably headlining his stage (most likely Outdoor Stage) and that he has promised lots of surprises along with reuniting the surviving members of N.W.A. this should be a very good day indeed!

You also have the 2nd time CHVRCHES has played the festival and they are on cloud 9 at the moment.

This day is all about variety, aside from Ice Cube and NWA we have A$AP Rocky and Run the Jewels as some of the top hip hip/rap acts and Zedd as a huge EDM artist.

For the classic nostalgia acts there is a huge one in THE DAMNED. The classic punk/psychedelic UK band has had their share of ups and downs and changes. But there is nothing like hearing Captain Sensibles awesome guitar combined with Dave Vanian’s dark and mysterious lead vocals. Expect them to “Smash It Up”.

Speaking of classics! How about the reunion of 90’s shoegazers LUSH. This is one of their first shows in 23 or so years! So excited to see these guys, back in the day they were one of the best at bringing ethereal vocals combined with breezy feedback guitars.

If you have never seen GRIMES, don’t miss her, her new tunes are killer and she is sure to deliver an amazing set! Speaking of female artists, another one we are very excited for is COURTNEY BARNETT. The Aussie rocker has a style all of her own, she should get the people moving!

One act we can’t wait to check out LIVE is Dan Auerbach (from The Black Keys) and his new band THE ARCS. This should be a real treat to Black Keys fans, the Arcs are like the Black Keys with a groovy back up band and without Patrick Carney of course. Should be amazing!

For Saturday if you want to witness some great up and coming acts, don’t miss bands such as THE DEAD SHIPS and DMA’s, these are the big bands of tomorrow. So many huge bands I’ve gotten into by checking out the latest and greatest including bands like Muse in 2004 and Grouplove in 2012 among many others.

Other sets we don’t want to miss on Saturday are Gary Clark Jr., Silversun Pickups, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and Deerhunter. Among many others!

Sunday, Day 3

After two jam packed days of acts and artists at Coachella the best thing to have happen is a jam packed amazing Sunday! And that’s just what Coachella 2016 boasts!

You have Calvin Harris headlining this day which should turn the main stage into one big dance party, but before you go out with a bang, you’ll want to definitely catch many of the day 3 acts.

Steady Holiday is the project of LA Based musician Dre Babinski. So far she has only released singles leading up to her debut, so she is hot off the presses. If you want to be in on the ground floor with some awesome breezy tunes, check her out!

If you are looking to dance, look no further than LA based disco-rock outfit DE LUX. They are on the rise and they make some awesome music that is sure to make you get down and boogie.

Don’t miss the trip-hop/hip-hop sounds of UK’s YOUNG FATHERS. They were a mercury prize winner of the prestigious music award in the UK in 2014 and are living up to their hype. Another band that won the award in recent years is Alt-J and we all know how far they have rode the awesome wave!

Another really compelling and awesome alt-rock vocalist and performer is MEG MYERS. With songs like “Sorry” and “Lemon Eyes” that have propelled her underground, she is set for the big time, she is a powerhouse and expect to be wowed!

If you are looking for classic Punk rock on this given sunday look no further than LA’s very own THE VANDALS. It is their first time playing the festival and should be a proper nod to one of the bands that was on a main stay at Goldenvoice shows over the years. This should be a slammin’ great set!

For some deeper and more experimental sounds on Sunday check out the intense alternative sounds of AUTOLUX. They are sure to make your ears happy!

Other bands we wanted to mention but couldn’t fit in the article are Sunday acts: Miike Snow, Beach House, The 1975, Matt and Kim, Cold War Kids, Death Grips, The Chainsmokers, John Digweed, and the US Festival debut of UK band Wolf Alice.

Coachella 2016 has everything you need to have a good time, music, food, drinks, activities, just the whole thing is awesome! Be sure and check out the craft beer area as they always have great selections of beers as well as first class restaurants and eats like ‘Eureka!” and “Beer Belly”.

Don’t forget your sunscreen and drink plenty of water!

Now kiddies all you have to do is go out and HAVE SOME FUN! And if you can’t make the festival be sure and tune in to the live broadcast and enjoy from your couch! A lot of fun also! Find it here:

Big round of applause to Goldenvoice for another awesome Coachella line up and planned Festival for 2016.

Get on your dancin’ shoes! It’s gonna be good baby!
